The pandemic brought many sad moments, but the confinement also made us fall in love with nature again. As such, camping and landing became more and more popular, increasing the demand for off-road vehicles, such as SUVs and trucks.

This, in turn, has increased the demand for off-road tires that promise confident on-road traction and better off-road traction compared to touring or road tires.

One such product is the Falken Wildpeak AT3W, an all-terrain tire with aggressive tread, high-tech features, and a fair price.

But do Falken all-terrain tires offer anything good? Let's find out in ourReview of Falken Wildpeak AT3Win which we will discuss the off-road and on-road aspects of the tyre, durability and comfort.

What are the specifications and maintenance fees?

According to Falken, the Wildpeak A/T3W is an all-terrain tireand for any weathercapabilities designed for adventure. The manufacturer's goal was to provide aggressive off-road characteristics without sacrificing safety and on-road dynamics.

The Wildpeak A/T3W also appearsthe 3PMSF(Three Peak Mountain Snow Flake), symbol that means greater longitudinal traction on snow.

tire tread

The tire is available in LT regular and metric sizes, with a wheel diameter of 15 to 22 inches. As such, it covers a large portion of the trucks and SUVs on the road today, including compact, midsize and large SUVs, and light and heavy commercial vehicles.vans.

For maintenance indicators, Falken has used industry standard TWIs, thin rods of rubber suspended in the grooves of the tires that become more visible as the tread wears.

Whentread depthreaches 2/32 of an inch, the TWI will be flush with the surface of the tire. This is the minimum allowable tread depthall season tirein the US, which means it should be replaced immediately.

Fortunately, the Falken Wildpeak AT3W is a very durable tire, and the manufacturer offers a 55,000-mile treadwear guarantee, which is an excellent result in this category.

Falken Wildpeak AT3W Features and Performance

Wondering what features the Falken Wildpeak AT3W has? Well, the Falken Wildpeak A/T3W packs some advanced features to make it suitable for both road and offroad.offroad driving.

In particular, Falken used very deep grooves; In fact, the tire has the deepest tread of any off-road tire, which should help with traction on uneven and slippery terrain, but also in snow.

However, this is not the only feature of the Wildpeak A/T3W: it includes many other technologies. Let's take a look at each one and find out how it fare in the real world after our tests in the Toyota 4runner.

1. Traction and off-road durability

The off-road category is not as simple asother tire categories. That is, some manufacturers are coming up with a soft off-road tire that is more geared towards road use (Bridgestone, Continental, Michelin), while others are coming up with off-road monsters (BF Goodrich).

The Wildpeak A/T3W seems to be somewhere in the middle, albeit a bit more focused on off-road traction. This is mainly because Falken has used the deepest tread in its class, which helps with off-road traction.

Test drive in wet gravel and shallow mud

However, the Wildpeak A/T3W also features durable and stiff tread blocks with support ramps and lowering elements that help with stone ejection and stabilize the tread pattern.

it also has staminaside wall protectionwith offset shoulder blocks for increased off-road tractionat lower pressures, importantwhile driving on the sandIcrawl on stones.

But how do these technologies and design choices affect off-road driving? Well overall the Wildpeak A/T3W is one of the bestbest offroad tires for drivingon uneven ground.

And it showed in my tests whendriving on a gravel road. It is especially good on paved surfaces like gravel and dirt, where it provides good grip and excellent stability.

After driving on this gravel road, I did not notice any scratches on the surface of the tire. You can see that the tire's durability is very good on paved surfaces, ensuring multiple seasons of off-road exploration.

Big rocks won't be a hindrance either, though, especially when you deflate the tires to 18psi, then the offset shoulder blocks provide additional traction.

Wildpeak A/T3W also provides reasonablemuddy terrain traction, thanks to the deep tread and the large void space. To test this claim, we tested large puddles of mud, soft mud beneath a large pool of water.

I'm really impressed with how they cut through the mud here, with great grip and traction, while also providing a smooth ride.

Overall, I think the Wildpeak A/T3W will satisfy most people with its off-road capability. If you're a camper or overlander, it'll get you where you want without much trouble, but it'll work just fine for some enthusiasts, too.

However, if you are looking for maximum off-road capability, you may want a tire with maximum grip for off-road or mud.

2. Driving sense and direction

Responsiveness isn't something many drivers associate with off-road tires, but having a tire that communicates well throughsteering wheelalways a nice addition.

When I tested it, I noticed that the Wildpeak A/T3W is not the most responsive tire on the market, even when compared to its direct competitors.

Therefore, you will not enjoy the winding road much if you are one of them.various trucksand SUV drivers who do.

3. Grip and traction on dry surfaces

dry road test drive

The Wildpeak A/T3W features Falken's patented powerful high-torque mount that features Canyon's 3D sipes that interlock with each other for increased handling stability but also resistance to wear.

Falken have also used an internal cooling shield that directs heat away from the tyre. This helps improve stability, especially when performing heavy tasks such astowing large trailers or transporting heavy loads.

However, the Japanese tire manufacturer did not stop there and used the outer sidewall of the apex, which acts as a heat shield and improves stability at higher speeds.

According to our road test, it is a very efficient road tire. Of course, he will not be able to provide you with that.with tractionand the grip of a touring tire, but few off-road tires can.

More importantly, Wildpeak A/T3W handles very safely.daily driving, with good grip and traction when I tested it in Newark, New Jersey.

Braking distances are also quite short for this category. With a stopping distance of 99.2 feet in my 50mph test, the car came to a complete stop.

Overall, the Wildpeak A/T3W is very good for the tread depth it provides. That is, tires such asContinental AreaA/T Contactand Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 3 will provide much better grip and traction on asphalt, but at the expense of off-road traction.

4. Grip and traction in the wet

Falken Wildpeak AT3W 2023 Review: The Ultimate Off-Road Tire - Tireer.com (5)

Test drive on a wet surface

The deepest tread in this category not only improves off-road traction, but also improves resistance to aquaplaning.

When Idrive on the highwayIt's no surprise that the Falken Wildpeak AT3W hardly ever hydroplans, even in very heavy rain and at very high speeds.

I live in Newark, New Jersey, a city that gets a lot of rain all year, especially in April. So a tire that works well in the rain is very important to me.

However, grip in the rain is not everything.with resistance to aquaplaning. The tread compound is also very important - the more viscous it is, the better grip you will get on slippery surfaces.

Falken's advanced silica rubber compound is quite good at providing confident performance in the wet. And it showed in my tests, with longitudinal grip being very good, which means quick acceleration won't be a problem and they corner very well without skidding in the wet.

In addition, the stop is safe to travel. In my test, I applied the brakes to bring the car to a stop at 50 mph and the car skidded 134.8 feet before coming to a complete stop. With such a distance, you don't have to worry about tire wear in the rain.

Also, when taking tight turns in wet conditions in harder corners, the Wildpeak A/T3W loses grip more easily than competitors like the Continental TerrainContact A/T and Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 3 that I've tested before.

More importantly, when it does, it exhibits understeer that is easily corrected.

In general, you shouldn't have any problems.in the rainy season, as long as you don't drive on the border all the time.

5. Traction on snow and ice

Falken Wildpeak AT3W 2023 Review: The Ultimate Off-Road Tire - Tireer.com (6)

Test drive in about 2 to 3 inches of snow

The Wildpeak A/T3W is marked 3PMSF (Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake), which means it has been tested for higher thrust levels.snow grip.

And my tests have shown that it is one of the most efficientwinter tires.

It works very well in loose snow, where you will have no problem accelerating, braking and turning.

(Video) All Terrains Explained with 7 of the best! BFG - Falken - Maxxis - Yokohama - Michelin - Toyo - MT

In the snow acceleration test, I went into a patch of snow about two to three inches deep. The car accelerated very well with the snow traction control system and had no problem navigating areas that were about 3 inches thick.

As I accelerated to 25mph I slammed on the brakes and as a result moved 20 meters before the car came to a complete stop. I was impressed with this braking distance.tire in the snow.

I then drove back into town to do a corner test. And in my opinion, it handles difficult corners impressively and offers very good grip.

Also, the packed snow makes things worse, but not much - the tire still performs better than most off-road tires.

However, Wildpeak A/T3W is not the best optionice skatingin my test, where it loses grip quickly and doesn't provide significant cornering grip.

This just goes to show that in harsh winter conditions you will need a kitsuitable winter tires.

comfort and noise

hawkscarefully designed the tread pattern to minimize noise, which can be seen in the real world. Despite the aggressive tread pattern, this is one of them.the quietest off-road tires.

When I tested it, there is noticeable tread buzz at higher speeds, but that's to be expected from an off-road tire. And most importantly, it won't ruin your trip.

Ride quality isn't up to standards, though it's not bad by any means.

That is, there is a knock when I drive into a hole, but without much vibration entering the cabin.

In general, I was satisfiedcomfort of this tireespecially since he performs so well on the field.
