Photojournalism: From suits to streetwear, watch styles and wonders (2023)

I doubt I've been accused of high style, so I find it ironic that I've been entrusted with directing our style review at Watches & Wonders.

The closest I've ever gotten to a compliment on my style was when Mark Cho zArsenalI liked my suit the first day before I turned into a scruffy mess at my Rolex meeting. Fortunately, I had the help of my friend James Stacey in spotting and photographing. But for all the really stylish people I've missed, know it's not you, it's me, and I'll be collaborating with our style editor Malaika Crawford next year, so you better start prepping your look now.

The first thing you see when you enter Palexpo and walk through the long security lines is a fork in the road. Left or right? One will take you to Rolex, Patek, Tag, and more, and the other to brands like JLC, Cartier, Lange, and more.

Palexpo during Watches & Wonders isn't the easiest "street style" venue, as everyone (myself included) is running frantically between meetings that seem to be five miles away and you're already five minutes late. It's also daunting to approach people from all over the world, who don't speak your native language, and interrupt their day to take a quick portrait and snapshot of their wrist. But there were bright spots, both literally and figuratively, among the no-nonsense but solid navy suits that had long been the standard for Swiss watch executives and employees, and these men were more than happy to chat for a few brief seconds. before continuing with your work. Day.

I mean Zeitwerk and Japanese robe. Come on, it's amazing.

I heard that the lockdown due to the pandemic has significantly relaxed the dress code at Watches & Wonders. Sure, there's still plenty of suits, but there's also a mix of streetwear, bright colors, wacky outfits, and great watch and outfit combinations. I only repacked because I didn't know what to expect and what to do. Now I know, and it's a much broader scope than I ever imagined.

You'll see a lot of familiar faces in the report - the people we ran into made us laugh with a quick portrait and wave. Here's a little taste of the Watches & Wonders style and the scenes they've been seen in.

You always hear how big the stands are at Palexpo, but it's really amazing to walk in and see a brightly lit Rolex and Patek box and realize there are several floors of rooms in each "stand".
